Storage & Handling Recommendations

Good film needs good care—following these practices helps keep the clarity sharp, the seals strong, and the shrink consistent every time.

  • Storage conditions
  • Keep it in a cool, dry spot with no direct sunlight hitting the rolls. Aim for a comfortable room temperature, nothing too hot or cold. Leave the rolls in their original wrapping to block dust from settling on the surface. Watch out for damp or humid areas—moisture can quietly hurt the film's ability to seal properly.
  • Transportation and warehouse handling
  • Move rolls gently so you don't crease the edges or dent them. Store them standing upright on pallets or sturdy shelving. Don't pile them too high—extra weight can squeeze and distort the film over time.
  • Before using—inspection and machine upkeep
  • Look over every roll before you put it on the machine: check for any tears, wrinkles, or odd discoloration. Make sure the film thickness lines up with what your equipment is set for. Keep the sealing bars and shrink tunnel clean on a regular basis—leftover residue can mess up seals and leave marks on the finished pack.
  • Take these steps and the film will perform the way it's supposed to.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1) How tough is polyolefin in real-world use?

Polyolefin is built for daily abuse in packaging—scuffs, bumps, conveyor handling, and long-distance shipping. It's light in weight but delivers strong mechanical performance, with solid resistance to moisture and many everyday chemicals. The result is a film/material that stays dependable without feeling "overbuilt."

2) Is polyolefin shrink film safe for food packaging?

It can be used for food packaging, but food suitability is not a guess—it's a compliance item. A polyolefin film is considered appropriate for food contact only when the specific grade is produced under controlled conditions and meets the relevant requirements for your sales market (commonly assessed against frameworks.

In plain terms: if it's made and tested to those requirements, it's suitable; if not, it shouldn't be used for direct food contact.

3) Will polyolefin shrink during storage?

Polyolefin film is generally stable on the shelf, but storage conditions matter. If rolls sit in hot warehouses, near sunlight/UV, or under large temperature swings, the film may change slightly in dimensions or run behavior.

  • To keep performance consistent:
  • Store indoors in a cool, dry place
  • Keep rolls out of direct sunlight

Avoid placing heavy loads on rolls (prevents edge deformation)

4) What does "single roll" polyolefin mean?

"Single roll" usually means the film is supplied as a single-wound roll—one continuous web on a roll for easy loading and handling. It's commonly chosen for manual packing or certain machine setups where a simple feed is preferred. Width and thickness can be selected to match different product sizes and protection needs.

5) How do I select the right shrink wrap roll size?

Picking the right roll is about getting a clean seal and tight finish while keeping waste low. Use this checklist:

  • Start with the product size: measure length, width, and height
  • Allow for the shrink result you want: the film must have enough coverage to shrink neatly without stressing seals
  • Match the roll to your equipment: verify roll width, roll format, and core size fit your sealer/tunnel or auto line
  • Optimize cost-in-use: oversized film increases scrap; undersized film causes poor wraps and frequent roll changes

Improving Clarity and Gloss in Pof Shrink Film: What We Control on the Production Floor

When customers ask for a "clearer, shinier" POF shrink film, they're usually asking for two things: lower haze (so the product looks crisp) and a cleaner surface (so light reflects evenly). Achieving both isn't one magic setting—it's the sum of disciplined material control, stable stretching conditions, and tight quality routines. Here's the approach we use at Jtpackage, including on ultra‑thin grades such as JT01 (10 micron).

1) Cleaner Inputs = Cleaner Optics

Optical defects often start as tiny issues in the melt: micro‑contamination, gels, inconsistent flow.

  • We prioritize high-consistency resin lots and manage incoming materials with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Batch stability matters because even small variations can show up as haze, sparkle, or "dirty" appearance once the film is stretched thin.
  • Controlled handling and storage prevent moisture, dust, and cross‑contamination—small things that create big optical problems later.

2) Extrusion Stability: Keep the Melt Calm and Uniform

Before stretching even begins, the film has to be uniform.

  • Stable melt conditions reduce flow marks and thickness ripple, which are common contributors to uneven gloss.
  • Consistent filtration and disciplined changeover practices help minimize gels and specks.
  • The goal is simple: a base web that is even, clean, and predictable, so stretching can do its job.

3) Biaxial Orientation: Where Transparency Is Won (or Lost)

Biaxial stretching improves film strength, but it also determines how "clean" the film looks.

  • Tight thermal window
    • Transparency drops quickly when the web is stretched outside a stable temperature range.
    • We focus on steady heating/cooling zones so molecular orientation stays even across the full width—this is a major driver of clarity.
  • Balanced stretch + speed
    • Stretch ratio and line speed are tuned together to avoid over‑stress in one direction.
    • For 10 micron film, the window is narrower, so we run with tighter process discipline to keep the film from turning hazy or developing patchy shine.

4) Additives: Use Only What Supports Optics

Additives can protect the film, but they can also dull it if used carelessly.

  • We use stabilization packages (e.g., for thermal aging and UV exposure where required) with a clear rule: protect performance without adding haze.
  • Formulations are kept consistent to avoid batch-to-batch appearance changes.
  • For food-contact applications, the film grade is managed with the appropriate compliance pathway and documentation for the target market.

5) Surface Finish and Treatment: Gloss Comes from Uniform Reflection

High gloss is less about "more treatment" and more about the right surface condition.

  • We apply controlled surface treatment when needed (for printability and surface performance).
  • A smoother, more consistent surface reflects light more evenly, which is what customers perceive as higher gloss—especially noticeable on premium retail packs.

6) Quality Control: Measured on the Line, Confirmed in the Lab

  • "Looks good" isn't a specification. We track what drives appearance.
  • In-process checks focus on parameters that correlate with clarity and gloss (web stability, thickness consistency, defect rate).
  • Lab analysis tools are used when troubleshooting or verifying improvements (including methods such as FTIR and SEM when appropriate).
  • Customer feedback is looped back into process settings—because the real test is how the film runs on packaging equipment and how it looks on shelf.

What Customers Get (Especially with JT01 10 Micron)

By controlling materials, stabilizing extrusion, running a disciplined biaxial stretch process, and keeping formulations and QC consistent, we deliver POF shrink film with:

  • High transparency (cleaner product visibility)
  • Strong gloss (premium shelf appearance)
  • Stable run behavior (fewer surprises during packaging)
  • Consistency across shipments (repeatable results roll to roll)
